PARP is a reading program in which parents and teachers work together to encourage children to become better readers. The goal of PARP is to stress that reading can be fun as well as informative. At many schools, a special assembly program is held to kick-off or wrap-up the PARP program. SQUEAKY CLEAN has been invited to perform at many such assemblies. PARP themes such as “Discover the Sounds of Music Through Reading” obviously lend themselves to a rock and roll show. However, even if your program’s theme does not specifically address music, we will present a show that stresses the connection between books and the songs we select. For example, the song “Rock Around The Clock” was featured in the movie “The Blackboard Jungle” (adapted from the 1954 novel by Evan Hunter). “I’m A Believer” was featured in the movie “Shrek,” based on the children’s book by William Steig. Please feel free to call us to discuss the particulars of your PARP program and we will be happy to adapt our show to fit your needs. Thanks to James H. Vernon School in East Norwich, Long Island who provided resources we used on this page.
