Introduction
The decade of the 1960s continues to be a source of fascination for today’s young people. The events of that turbulent period in American history continue to resonate today. Beyond issues of fashion and music, today’s students are curious to know how young people forty years ago managed to have such an impact on the world around them.
But limited instruction time often means that Post-War American History does not get the attention it deserves. This is especially unfortunate since many teachers, parents and grandparents were profoundly changed by the 1960‘s.
With its engaging mix of music and multi-media, “The Sixties: Decade of Turmoil and Triumph” can stimulate lively classroom discussion and may inspire students to continue to investigate the decade on their own.

About The Show
Our assembly program combines live performances of rock and roll hits from the 1960s with a state-of-the-art multimedia presentation of the decade’s important historical events.
The program focuses on the ways young people expressed their values and the ways that society responded. After an inspiring montage of JFK, Bob Dylan and Martin Luther King, the show presents the important events of each calendar year by means of a mock radio newscast. Onscreen appear captioned news photos, film clips, video footage and animations to reinforce the dialogue.
The program tracks the progress of several important trends throughout the decade: the Space Program, the Civil Rights Movement, the War in Vietnam and the Antiwar Movement.
